Mary Wollstonecraft

Mary Wollstonecraft wrote "Vindication of the Rights of Woman" in 1792 expressing her opinions of equality for men and women. She did not want one gender to be better than the other...she wanted them to be completely equal with the same opportunities and rights. She uses this work to explain how men and women are equal. She does not want women to just be seen as objects that can reproduce.

She saw the importance of education and believed that both men and women, boys and girls, should have the same rights to free and equal education, and not be separated from one another. With equal education, women can have the same opportunities as men in the future when it comes to careers. She believed that women should be allowed to participate in medicine and politics, and that they should be able to speak their mind, voicing their opinions without being judged by men.

She believes that men and women should be judged in the same way. If women are called out and shamed because they have sex before marriage, then men should also be called out and treated the same way. It is time for men and women to be treated the same way, with equality. No gender is better than the other, and they should have equal opportunities and respect for the decisions and opportunities they have.

This is still relevant today and men and women are still battling the same social prejudices and ideals. Equality has been achieved in education and the work force, but there are still male dominant and female dominant jobs and judgements and stereotypes made by the public that promotes inequality to this day. Wollstonecraft was writing in 1792 about equality for women and men, and to this day in 2015, we are still fighting for and trying to achieve the same thing.
