Psalm 150 - Mary Sidney Herbert

Mary Sidney Herbert is a very important woman writer during this time period. In her works, she focuses on religion and praising the lord. She was very religious and that is reflected in her writings.

In Psalm 150, she opens with the first stanza about how everyone should praise the lord, his greatness and all of his doings: "Oh, laud the Lord, the God of hosts commend, Exalt his pow’r, advance his holiness: With all your might lift his almightiness;Your greatest praise upon his greatness spend." Everyone should be praising the lord and the bible. Through her writings, she in a sense translates the bible, making it easier for others to understand which in turn helps spread and emphasize religion.

Throughout the next two stanzas, she talks about many different, beautiful instruments. She explains how they are used to praise the lord and practice their religion. These instruments, trumpets, lute, lyre, pipe, tabret bless, cymbals, are ways of expressing their praise and love for the lord.
