from The Countesse of Montgomery’s Urania: “Love peruse me, seeke, and finde” - Mary Wroth
Mary Wroth wrote this poem as she was looking for love. She wanted to find love and the right lover. She wants it to be true love and her ideal man.
In a man, Wroth is looking for an overall, well rounded man. She wants someone that will be a good father for her children when she has children, and she wants someone that will go out and do work, but still come back to her, treating her like loyalty, loving her and caring for her.
"Deare behold me, you shall seeFaith the Hive, and love the Bee." She wants her husband to be like a worker bee: they go out and do their work but return to the hive and queen bee every night. This is what she is looking for in a man, but she finds it hard to find this.
She wants it to be true love. A love and relatioship where they can be themselves, comfortable, happy; truly in love: "Lying bare To despaire,When you thus anotamiseAll my body, my heart prise; Being true Just to you." It is hard to find a lover with all of these qualities and because of this, it is frustrating. Finding a true lover is a hard task; it seems almost impossible to find a lover who fits your ideal image perfectly, having all of the qualities you look for.
